Kumble, Agarkar Back in Test Squad

Monday, March 22 2004

Veteran Indian spinner, Anil Kumble and the ever improving fast bowler Ajit Agarkar have been included in India's test team for the upcoming historic test series against Pakistan.

Both Anil Kumble and Ajit Agarkar were instrumental and ever important to India's success on their tour to Australia recently.

The two were India's top two wicket taker's in the four test series and Ajit Agarkar featured prominently in the VB Series as well taking a superb 6/41 against world champions, Australia.

Agarkar and Kumble both missed out on the Samsung 'Jeet Lo Dil' ODI Series against Pakistan due to injury. Whilst Kumble had shoulder problems to contend with, Agarkar had a sore shin which kept him out of action since the conclusion of the VB Series in Australia.

Both will no doubt strengthen an inexperienced Indian bowling attack, which contains the likes of Zaheer Khan, Irfan Pathan and Lakshmipathy Balaji.

Also in the 15 man squad are spinner's Murali Kartik and spinning all rounder Ramesh Powar, as well as the highly talented hard hitting Yuvraj Singh. The rest of the test squad selects itself, with Akash Chopra once again selected as partner to Virender Sehwag at the top of the order.

The Squad:

Sourav Ganguly (captain), Akash Chopra, Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid (vice captain), Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Yuvraj Singh, Parthiv Patel (wk), Ajit Agarkar, Ramesh Powar, Irfan Pathan, Zaheer Khan, Lakshmipathy Balaji, Anil Kumble, Murali Kartik.
