Waugh Equals Record

Sunday, July 20 2003

Steve Waugh became the first Australian to score centuries against all nine Test opponents when he cracked a scintillating hundred of just 133 balls against Bangladesh in Darwin.

The Australia captain declared as soon as he reached 100 not out and took his team's first-innings total to 407 for seven. It was his 31st Test century, setting Bangladesh the formidable task of scoring 310 just to avoid an innings defeat.

He was only the second cricketer - after South Africa's Gary Kirsten - to score centuries against all nine Test-playing rivals. Kirsten beat the Aussie skipper to that milestone in the first Test against Bangladesh at East London in October last year.
