Day 3: India 'A' v Safrica

Tuesday, July 22 2003

The tour match between India 'A' and South Africa, finished off in an expected fashion. Three days was hardly the required time limit to force a result in a otherwise fiercely competitive game, and as expected the game was a dull draw.

South Africa resmuing day two in a strong position at 342/5, continued where they left off yesterday. Pollock and Dippenaar combined, before Pollock was the first man out on day 3 for a quickfire 36. A patient Dippenaar and a explosive Peterson again proved that partnerships are so vital in all forms of test cricket.

Although rising Indian speedstar Aavishkar Salvi put Dippenaar's hopes of a half century to rest as Dippenaar fell for 37. Peterson (32) fell to young Irfan Pathan as South Africa were soon dismissed for a strong total of 463.

With inadequate time to force a result, the successful opening partnership of Das and Gambhir was broken by Shaun Pollock as he dismissed the compact Das for 15. Gambhir (18) didn't last too long and he was dismissed off Monde Zondeki's bowling.

Prolific Ranji Trophy run scorers, Wasim Jaffer and Hemang Badani combined for a 100 run partnership. Both batsman reached their half centuries with Jaffer falling to Peterson for 54. The match though ended soon after as a drawn game.

Some exciting cricket was witnessed by many, with a plethora of runs scored by both sides and an exhibition of some of the rising stars of South African and Indian Cricketers was displayed.
