England could jump to second

England could jump to second in the ICC Test Championship if they can achieve an amazing 4-0 victory over South Africa in the forthcoming Test series. In addition, a victory margin of just one Test would see England move to third in the table, overtaking New Zealand. On the other hand, an unlikely whitewash defeat, would be insufficient to see South Africa overtake the invincible Australians. The chance of such a dramatic rise was brought about by the annual refreshing of the Championship which occured on the 22nd July. However the overall rankings of the Test nations was only slightly affected, as India overtook Sri Lanka into fifth place.

Recently before the changes were made, England moved into fourth place because of their thrashing of Zimbabwe, as well as West Indies success against Sri Lanka, who moved down to fifth position.
