Yuvraj signs for Yorkshire

Friday, May 9 2003

Yorkshire have signed Indian ODI batsman and occasional left-arm spinner Yuvraj Singh as their second overseas player for the 2003 season.

21-year-old Yuvraj will help the Tykes compensate for the loss of Australian batsman Matthew Elliott, who has returned home in an effort to recover from a troublesome knee injury.

Yuvraj, one of the best fielders in India, has played 73 ODIs, scoring 1644 runs at 31.01 including one century and 12 fifties. He also has 23 wickets at 34.21. Though he has never played Test cricket, his first-class record is impressive with 7 tons and 10 fifties and an average of 47.88, including a best of 209 for his state of Punjab.
