Day 2: NZ vs SL

Monday, May 5 2003

After another delay to the match, it finally got underway with 45 overs to be bowled. Stephen Fleming won the toss again and chose to bat.

Matt Horne just lasted four balls when he played outside the line of his body and was caught behind for one. Enter hero Fleming and 6 balls later he showed he was only human as he was trapped infront for a duck. Mathew Sinclair needed to show some form but he was Vaas's 2nd wicket when the score was just 11.

Scott Styris and Mark Richardson started the rebuilding stage and did it well until Styris was the last wicket to fall for the day with the score on 71. He had made 32 before Muralitharan claimed his scalp. Jacob Oram saw the side through to stumps when it was called for bad light in the 34th over.

Vaas bowled well on a pitch that looks to be low and slow with not much assistance for the bowlers. He took 2-19 with Muralitharan and Nissanka grabbing one each.

With the New Zealand tail long, this match is looking a lot more exciting that it looked at the start of todays play.

Short Scorecard:
New Zealand 74/4 (34 overs)(Richardson 32*, Styris 32, Vaas 2-19)
