Ponting may miss 4th Test

Friday, May 9 2003

One-day Captain Ricky Ponting is in doubt for Australia's 4th and final Test against the West Indies, starting tomorrow, due to illness.

Ponting sat out the final day of his country's historic 3rd test win, clearly visible looking on from the stands in his tracksuit.

Easily the leading scorer in the series to date, Ponting's absence would most likely give Queenslander Martin Love his third test appearance.

Darren Lehmann would then be favourite to temporarily take the number three batting spot, from Love at four with Steve Waugh remaining at five.

Ponting has played in Australia's last 45 test matches, dating back to the third test in the corresponding series against the West Indies four years ago.
