Kent CCC Sign Muralitharan

Saturday, July 5 2003

Kent County Cricket Club today announced that Muttiah Muralitharan is set to join Kent from 21 July 2003 for the rest of the season as one of its two overseas players.

Initially, Muralitharan will replace Andrew Symonds and will then replace Mohammad Sami when the Pakistan fast bowler returns home to fulfil international commitments.

Commenting on Muralitharan's arrival at Kent, Ian Brayshaw, Director of Cricket said:

"We are thrilled to have Murali with us for the latter part of the season. As we found with Steve Waugh last year, to have a player of such international standing has a huge impact throughout the Club and it will be a particularly good opportunity for our younger players to learn from one of the world's greatest bowlers."

Muralitharan is due to arrive in England on 23 July and his first appearance for Kent will be against Yorkshire in the National League Match to be played on 27 July at Scarborough.
