S Jones Sets Comback Date

Saturday, July 12 2003

Simon Jones, the England and Glamorgan fast bowler who ruptured his knee ligaments on the first day of the Ashes series last November at Brisbane, has made an impressive recovery from reconstructive surgery to his knee, and intends to play for Glamorgan's second XI on August 6.

If Simon Jones does indeed make it for Glamorgan's second XI match then, it will be almost nine months to the day since the injury occurred, also if Simon Jones can proves his fitness in that match, he could even return to first-class action at Sophia Gardens the following week when Glamorgan entertain Durham.

Simon Jones though faces a much tougher task to regain his spot in the England set-up with the likes of James Anderson suddenly appearing on the scene and the return of D Gough to the set up.
