Waqar To Become A Bear

Sunday, May 18 2003

Former Pakistani captain Waqar Younis openly commented about the chances of him becoming Warwickshire's 2nd overseas player, when questioned during the West Indies vs Australia 1st One-Day International.

During the interview he admitted that the deal was all but done, it was just a case of waiting for latest injury news on the original choice of Shane Bond, who earlier was forced to return home to New Zealand with a suspected stress fracture.

However these reports have now felt to have been a worse case scenario, and It now seems that the injury would be more likely to be disc related in which case he would still be able to play for Warwickshire at some point during the season.

Although Waqar Younis said that he was almost certain to play for the Bears this season, other names that are floating around are....

Pakistan's Mohammad Sami has in the past been linked with the Edgbaston club and could now be one of those being approached by Warwickshire, Sami would make an identical switch with the out an out pace of a player like Shane Bond.

Or

Zaheer Khan, who was at one point approached as a short-term replacement while Bond was on international duty for the early part of the season, has already stated he does not want to play a whole season, but if the injury worries as expected are not as bad, with a whole five months off before New Zealand arrive, he might like to keep lose with a few competitive matches.
