Ban-SA: Same old, Same old..

Sunday, May 4 2003

South Africa took 18 wickets at the Bangabandhu in Dhaka as Bangladesh ended the day with two wickets left, still 26 runs behind.

Shaun Pollock, Makhaya Ntini, Allan Dawson and Robin Peterson all struck as Bangladesh totalled a pitiful 102 in their first dig, skipper Khaled Mahmud top-scoring on 20*.

It was much better second time round, as eight Bangladeshis got off the mark, scoring between 18 and 33, and then getting out again. In-form Habibul Bashar top-scored, and Mohammad Salim (24*) and Tapash Baisya (8*) will be wanting to avoid the innings defeat as Bangladesh made 204/8.

Once again, Graeme Smith amazed many with his use of bowlers. Out of eighty overs in the second innings, Paul Adams was third change, Robin Peterson bowled 27, and Smith himself bowled more overs (7) than Wisden's Cricketer of the Year, Shaun Pollock (6)...

It's going to take a miracle (or a very heavy thunderstorm) to save the Bangladeshis now - saves me from doing a day five match report, anyway...
