Saturday, August 2 2003

Bangladesh take the victory in what was a well deserved effort which will bring the tourists some confidence going into the 3 one day internationals against the worlds no:1 cricket side, starting on the 2nd of august.

Qld academy won the toss and decided to have a bat first and where in trouble early and at one stage where 4 - 24. Bowling well were Hasibul Hossain with the first 3 wickets, and Bangladesh where in celebration mode.

Qld academy started at fight back with there middle to lower order hitting some much needed runs but the first spell did all the damage and the locals could only muster up a total of 7 - 175 of their 50 overs. pick of the batsmen was young CA Philipson with a solid 67 (113). he was well supported by CD Hartley, who scored a great 41* (82). the only other batsmen to get into double figures was ap maynard with 27 (84).

The bowling from Bangladesh was superb, Bowling O M R W
Hasibul Hossain 10 2 39 3 (1w)
Anwar Hossain 10 4 15 1
Khaled Mahmud 10 2 33 2 (3w)
Mohammad Rafique 9 0 37 0 (2w)
Hannan Sarker 3 0 12 0 (1w)
Alok Kapali 2 0 15 1 (1w)
Sanwar Hossain 6 0 22 0

Bangladesh chasing a smallish total really needed to focus to get the win and confidence. It was a shaky start with a wicket falling early however a good partnership between one of the stars Hannan Sarker and Habibul Bashar seen them take the score to 64. The middle order putting together some good partnerships to reach the total 6 down however slowly but gaining some good form coming up to a tough couple of days.

Hannan Sarker 35 (80)
Al Sahariar 2 (7)
Habibul Bashar 21 (80)
Alok Kapali 36 (95)
Sanwar Hossain 26 (49)
Tushar Imran 0 (4)
+Khaled Mashud not out 37 (52)
*Khaled Mahmud not out 2 (18)
Extras (lb 3, w 8, nb 6) 17
Total (6 wickets, 195 Min's, 46.2 overs) 176

All in all a good lead up for the tourists and they should take some good and valuable notes out of this game.

They will face an uphill battle on Saturday against the Aussie's.
