Twenty20 comes to Dhaka

Tuesday, October 5 2004

The Bangladesh Cricket Board will this month introduce a domestic Twenty20 competition, with an eye on improving the national side's One Day International performances.

Bangladesh have just five wins in 95 ODIs, with only two coming over top-level opponents (Pakistan in the 1999 World Cup and pre-walkout Zimbabwe last winter).

The BCB's Khondokar Jamiluddin said, "We haven't made good progress in one-day cricket and the pressure of scoring fast in the new tournament will help us find some hard-hitters."

When the 12-team tournament starts on October 15, Bangladesh becomes the third Test nation to adopt 20-over matches, following England and South Africa.
