Gibbs doubtful for SL Tests

South African selectors have called up Andrew Puttick, as a cover for the injured Herschelle Gibbs, as a part of the squad to play two Tests in Sri Lanka.

Gibbs injured his right ankle during a training session ahead of the team's departure for the island country. Though he hasn't been ruled out of the series, the selectors have decided to play safe, by adding the un-capped Puttick to the now 15-member side.

Puttick, a teammate of Gibbs and captain Graeme Smith at Western Province, has represented South Africa at schools, under-19 and A team level.

Puttick, however, will not be a part of the One-Day squad, which is slated to play five matches against the hosts, after the conclusion of the Test series.

South Africa Test squad:
G Smith (captain), M Boucher (wicket-keeper), N Boje, B Dippenaar, H Gibbs, N Hayward, J Kallis, L Klusener, A Nel, M Ntini, R Peterson, S Pollock, A Puttick, J Rudolph, M van Jaarsveld.
