THE 2004 PRESIDENTS CUP
Day Three

Favourites Barbados bounced back smartly from their opening defeat to comfortably beat the Leeward Islands at Enmore Recreation Ground.

Leeward Islands vs. Barbados
Enmore, Guyana

Toss: Leeward Islands

Barbados knocked over the Leeward batsmen for 157 in 48.4 overs and then cruised to the target with 6 wickets in hand. The decision of Stuart Williams to bat first backfired quickly when Collymore produced a near unplayable delivery to dismiss Austin Richards (0) in his first over. Ryan Hinds, rushed into the attack, then took the wickets of Sylvester Joseph (9) and Runako Morton (0) in his first over to set the score back at 24/3.

The next 2 wickets produced just 20 runs between them and the Leewards was struggling at 44/5. Skipper Stuart Williams played for 55 from 99 balls to revive the innings somewhat and allrounders Wilden Cornwall (33) and Omari Banks (21) also contributed, but 157 was all that could be mustered in total. Spinners Hinds (3/24) and Benn (2/31) proved extremly effective, whilst the seamers Bradshaw (2/36) and Collymore (2/29) prospered as well.

On debut at the regional OD level, left-hander Martin Nurse scored 70 to his teams chase, before getting out to a disappointing swipe. Earlier Sherwin Campbell (17) and Dwayne Smith (0) were the victims of Kerry Jeremy who went on to take 3/30 from his 10 overs. Bowling hero, Ryan Hinds (30) entered at Smith's fall and put on 70 with Nurse, then was Jeremy's third wicket.

From 134/4, Floyd Reifer (21 not out) and Courtney Browne (8 not out) saw their team home with no further loss and 12.4 overs to spare. Interestingly, West Indies offspinner Omari Banks (8-1-37-0) opened the bowling with Jeremy.
