Rain Comes To South Africa's Aid

Sunday, August 15 2004

The heavy rains of Colombo were South Africa's saving grace on the fourth day of the second test between South Africa and Sri Lanka.

Resuming on 4/211, Sri Lanka wasted little time and immediately declared. South Africa then batted under the grey Colombo skies.

The Proteas suffered two big losses first up with Gibbs being dismissed by Malinga for 4 and van Jaarsveld being cleaned up by Chaminda Vaas for 2.

But that was all the action that day four would give as heavy rains swept over the SSC Ground in Colombo and the fourth day was unfortunately abandoned.

Brief Score Summary:

Sri Lanka (2nd Innings): 4/211 Declared (Atapattu 72, Sangakkara 64, Kallis 2/6, Rudolph 1/22)

South Africa (2nd Innings): 2/21 (Smith 9*, Kallis 1*, Malinga 1/13, Vaas 1/3)
