Odumbe Handed 5-Year Ban

Kenya's hopes of success in the ICC Champions Trophy suffered a body bowl overnight as former captain and key all-rounder Maurice Odumbe was suspended for 5 years after a match-fixing controversy.

Justice Ahmed Ebrahim charged 35-year-old Odumbe with 12 separate offences, ranging from association with a bookmaker to accepting large sums of money in order to fix a match, on the claims of his ex-wife.

Judge Ebrahim heavily criticized the off-spinning all-rounder for his 'greedy' behavior and lack of remorse.

"He has exhibited no remorse. He has not indicated any intention to mend his ways. Instead he has chosen to cast doubts on the honesty and integrity of people who have despaired of his behaviour."

The excerpt of Ebrahim's damming judgment paints a grim picture for the seasoned Odumbe, a veteran of 61 ODI matches and 3 World Cup campaigns - including one as captain in 1999. His ban seemingly signals the end of his colourful career.

A replacement has yet to be named in the Kenyan Squad for the ICC Champions Trophy.
