Indian Illness Woes

Saturday, August 21 2004

Ashish Nehra and Harbhajan Singh have both been ruled out of India’s first match of the Videocon cup against Pakistan, after falling ill with viral fever.

"Ashish is particularly bad and he is completely laid up in the bed." said Andrew Leipus, Indian team physio yesterday, he himself suffering from a throat congestion. This is yet another disappointing set back for Nehra, having already missed countless games due to injury throughout his career.

Harbhajan was in a similar state saying, “I am completely bereft of any strength in my frame. It's difficult to even be on my legs.” This proved particularly frustrating for Harbhajan, hindering his come back after eight long months on the sidelines due to a ligament tear.

However it wasn’t all bad news for Indian supporters, VVS Laxman’s bruised knee has been recovering rapidly, with all swelling having subsided completely.

After playing Pakistan on August the 21st, India will have to face up to world champions Australia, just two days later. If all goes well Harbhajan and Nehra will both be available for selection by then.
