Lee Recalled to Australian Squad

Monday, August 2 2004

Brett Lee has completed his recovery from ankle surgery, being named in the 14-man Australian squad for the Holland Tri-series and ICC Trophy in August and September.

27-year-old Lee has been missing since the early stages of Australia's tour of Sri Lanka after breaking down with ankle problems. Capped 84 times in ODI cricket, he underwent surgery in April and has since been embarking on a disciplined fitness campaign.

Brad Haddin will again deputize for Adam Gilchrist behind the stumps, with the vice-captain set to miss the Holland Tri-series against India and Pakistan due to the birth of his second child. Darren Lehmann is a likely vice-captain in the 'keepers absence.

Shane Watson and Glenn McGrath retain their places in the squad despite their disappointing tours of Zimbabwe.

Brad Williams - recently struggling with back complaints - has been overlooked for both tournaments.

Australia open their tri-series schedule on August 23 in an ideal preparation for the ICC Champions Trophy in September.

The full squad is:

Ricky Ponting (c)
Adam Gilchrist (vc) (Brad Haddin will take his place in the Videocon Cup in Holland)
Matthew Hayden
Damien Martyn
Darren Lehmann
Andrew Symonds
Michael Clarke
Shane Watson
Ian Harvey
Brad Hogg
Brett Lee
Jason Gillespie
Michael Kasprowicz
Glenn McGrath.
