Kent Sign Darren Stevens

Tuesday, November 9 2004

Darren Stevens, the 28 year-old former Leicestershire batsman, has today committed his future to Kent. Stevens has signed a two-year deal and expressed his delight at joining his new club:

"A number of counties have shown an interest in me, but the opportunity to play on good wickets and in a side with real ambition persuaded me to come to Kent. I feel I still have much to prove and look forward to doing so in the seasons ahead."

Kent were in dire trouble in the batting department after both Smith and Loudon left the club in the past month, but Stevens helps fill the gap along with more players on the cards and the club still to comfirm who their two overseas players will be.

Graham Johnson, Chairman of Cricket at Kent, said:

"We are delighted Darren has chosen to join us. As a player who was selected in the last 30 to represent England for the 2003 World Cup, and a former England Academy player in 2002/03, we look forward to Darren adding to the list of Kent players who have represented their country. We know that he has the desire to fulfil his undoubted potential and felt that Kent would give him the best possible opportunity to do so. This is another important step in the development of our squad for next season."
