Jaipur: BCCI Presidents XI v South Africans

South Africa got themselves into a comfortable position on the first day of their tough tour of India as they took on a talented Indian Board Presidents XI at Jaipur.

Graeme Smith and Jacques Rudolph got procedings off to a painfully slow start, and after Rudolph was run out it was left to the promoted Justin Ontong to settle the innings.

Legspinner Sairaj Bahutule did his cause no harm as he took four wickets, but he lacked support at the other end.

The declaration came at 226/5 near the end of the day. Hashim Amla would have been craving more time in the middle, but tomorrow it will be left to see how the Indian hopefuls fare against a depleted South African bowling lineup tomorrow

South Africa 226/5
GC Smith 86, J Ontong 70
