India Name New Look ODI Side

Friday, December 3 2004

The BCCI unveiled a new look ODI side that will tour Bangladesh in the coming weeks. The major change in the squad is that champion leg spinner, Anil Kumble has opted out of the One Day International's.

Also, VVS Laxman has been rested for the ODI series and stylish left hander, Dinesh Mongia gets another turn with the Indian team after his impressive performances in Ranji Trophy Cricket and County Cricket in England.

Two fresh faces are added to the Indian side as Harayana All Rounder Joginder Sharma and explosive wicket keeper/batsman Mahendra Dhoni come into the team. Dhoni was picked ahead of Dinesh Karthik who has been keeping in the Indian test team.

Dhoni posseses a reputation in Indian domestic One Day Cricket of explosive hitting power and aggression which the selectors thought would be a good asset for an Indian wicketkeeper for the ODI matches.

Ajit Agarkar comes back into the side to add depth to the bowling department and Sridharan Sriram is also recalled after years of consistent performances in domestic cricket.
