Special Tradition Blown Away

The world famous St Lawrence Ground Lime Tree at Canterbury has suffered an unceremonious end after gale force winds in the region of 70-90mph ripped the famous lime tree from its very foundations.

The lime tree has seen off some of the most formidable weather in the past including two major hurricanes however over the past few years a disease has taken it's hold and weakened the tree to such an extent that it wasn't able to cope with the high winds this time around.

A 7ft stump is all that remains where once one of world crickets greatest landmarks stood tall and provided shade for those witnessing the exploits of Grace, Woolley, Cowdrey and Ames to name just a few.
