India Firmly in Front

Sunday, December 19 2004

India started the day looking set for a total beyond 600. However, when Sachin Tendulkar was out LBW to Mortaza on the first ball of the day, things quickly changed.

Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Dinesh Kaarthick, and Irfan Pathan departed soon after, India was now 412-7 and Bangladesh had clawed back into the game.

However, the Indian captain and India's spin duo provided some steel to bring India to an imposing 540. Ganguly falling for 88 and Harbajan Singh for an entertaining 47.

Bangladesh's batting order performed as everyone expected it to, and the hosts were struggling at 54-3 at the end of the day. Ashraful and Bashar, the only batsmen of any note in the Bangladeshi lineup, were both on 0 at the end of the day.
