Zimbabwe Update
30 Sep 2007
By: Daniel Rosam

After Zimbabwe's heroics at the ICC 20/20 World championship where unfortunately they failed to progress even though they managed to overhaul the eventual semi- finalists Australia the players have been able to turn out for their local clubs ahead of Zimbabwe's first class competition, the Logan Cup.

Zimbabwe Schools also took part in an interprovicial 20/20 tournament to enhance the new style of cricket in the country. Many upcoming Zimbabwe youngsters, who we should see at the U19 World Cup in Malaysia next year showed their stuff and many impressed. One stand out player was Prince Masvaure who already has some U19 experience under his belt.
Zimbabwe have always has a top class U19 team. Previously being able to win the Plate championship and overhaul teams such as England. Their is always oodles of obvious talent, it just needs to be nurtured.

The Zimbabwe national team has been in squad training in-between their local matchups ahead of their upcoming series against a strong Sri Lanka A squad. Zimbabwe will offer their full first team for this series which is being doped as preparation for Zimbabwe's test resumption which should come sometime next year.
Training injuries to Terry Duffin and Hamilton Masakadza have put them both in doubt for the series, starting on 10th October. Sean Williams however, who was ruled out of the World 20/20 should make his return following his recovery from a major back injury.
Robin Brown, the recently appointed Zimbabwe coach expects a positive attitude towards the game during the Sri Lanka series. Kevin Curran, who he succeeded before the 20/20 World Championship was a rather defensive coach whereas Brown is opting for a more positive approach, which seemed to work wonders during Zimbabwe's previous two fixtures.

The Zimbabwe Cricket Board, or the ZCB as it is more commonly known has changed many of the contracts at players requests. This is a good move by the board as it must continue these such moves to provide important relationships with the players, which is has previously been lacking. Many feel this was brought upon by the newly appointed coach Robin Brown.

Zimbabwe's next official full member fixture comes in November-December when they host the West Indians for 3 One Day Internationals in Harare.
