McCullum to open the batting
01 Sep 2007
By: James Nixon

Brendon McCullum is likely to be tried as a opening batsman again for the Twenty20 World Cup and beyond by the New Zealand management.

New Zealand left for South Africa on Sunday morning with the new captain Daniel Vettori saying "McCullum's a natural opener and he has a chance to secure the role for an extended period as whenever you have the wicket-keeper opening the batting it gives the side a great balance."

The Black Caps play Kenya and Sri Lanka in the opening round.
