Murali could still make World Cup
31 Aug 2007
By: James Nixon

Muttiah Muralitharan could still yet play in the Twenty20 World Cup despite injuring the bicep above his right elbow while playing for Lancashire in the County Championship.

Lancashire physio Sam Byrne told the BBC that "It's better news than it could have been but it's up to Sri Lanka to assess it. We got the results back and basically it is just showing some inflammation around the bicep."

Byrne went onto say "We're sending the scans back with Murali to Sri Lanka and they'll manage it and constantly reassess it over the next week. Muralitharan played no further part in Lancashire's match against Kent after the first day."

Malinga Bandara is thought to be on standby should Muralitharan not make the squad.
