Kenya devastate Zimbabwe for 69
01 Mar 2006
By: Liam Camps

Kenya romped home against Zimbabwe in a lowscoring affair, taking victory by 65 runs at Harare Sports Club to go 2-1 up in a best of five limited overs series.

Defending a meagre score of 134, the Kenyans routed their hosts for 69, of which Brendon Taylor scored 33 from 43 balls. Thomas Odoyo (3/13), Peter Ongondo (3/14), and Tony Suji (3/16) shared the wickets, and only two Zimbabweans - Taylor and Coventry - managed to reach double figures.

Kenya earlier won the toss and elected to take first strike. Edward Rainsford dismissed both openers on his way to a 3-wicket haul, and only Masakadza was wicketless of seven bowlers used. David Obuya's 22 down the order topscored for his team, though Tanmay Mishra and Jimmy Kamande scored 17 apiece.

Zimbabwe's chase started adequately, despite Odoyo's dismissal of the first three batsmen, including captain Terry Duffin for 8. A total of 25/2 improved to 65/4 before the spectacular capitulation. Brendon Taylor was first out in a series of 6 wickets for 4 runs, with three of the last six batsmen registering ducks.

Kenya 134
David Obuya 22, Tanmay Mishra/Jimmy Kamande 17
Edward Rainsford 3-16, Piet Rinke 2-11

Zimbabwe 69
Brendon Taylor 33, Charles Coventry 14
Thomas Odoyo 3-13, Peter Ongondo 3-14, Tony Suji 3-16

Kenya won by 65 runs
