Freddie among ICC award nominees

The ICC has announced the nominations for its four major awards, with the winners to be announced on October 11th in Sydney. England's Ashes stars, Andrew Flintoff and Kevin Pietersen have been nominated for awards, but the majority of the Ashes series is not taken into account. This, as the period of scrutiny is from August 1st 2004 to July 31st 2005.

Flintoff is among seven players nominated for the Player of the Year award. He is joined by India's Rahul Dravid, Pakistan's Inzamam-ul-Haq, South Africa's Jacques Kallis, and Australia's Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist and Glenn McGrath.

In the Emerging Player of the Year category, Kevin Pietersen is a leading contender. Ian Bell, Gautam Gambhir, Dinesh Kartik, Manjural Islam Rana and A.B. DeVilliers are the other candidates. Pietersen also features in the One Day International Player of the Year, along with team-mate Marcus Trescothick.

Brian Lara will square off against Inzamam-ul-Haq, Ricky Ponting and Shane Warne, among others, as he is nominated for the Test Player of the year award.
