India have finally decided on a successor to Greg Chappell as the head of the Indian national team, South African Gary Kirsten.

Although Kirsten has no experience as coach of a national side, the BCCI have offered him the job, left vacant by Chappell after the World Cup, earlier this year.

"They have offered me the job. I asked them for some time to consider it and they were very obliging, but it's an extremely exciting prospect and, provided a few details can be worked out, I'm looking forward to the challenge," Kirsten told Reuters.

Kirsten played 101 Tests and 185 ODIs in a highly illustrious career for South Africa.
