Morne Morkel, the South African fast bowler, succumbed to the foot injury while bowling on the third day of their tour match against the Pakistan Cricket Board Patron?s XI and was limited to bowling just 5 overs before limping off the field. Fresh X-rays revealed that a fractured foot, with a visible crack in his fourth metatarsal.

Morkel was flown home today and is expected to be out of all forms of cricket for the next six to eight weeks as his injured foot recovers. He underwent a fitness test on the first morning of the 1st Test between Pakistan and South Africa, but failed and was excluded from the team as a result. The South African selectors will meet later today in order to discuss a possible replacement.
