Akhtar injures hamstring
20 Jan 2007
By: Zac Gelman

Shoaib Akhtar has been sent to hospital for scans after injuring his hamstring in the second Test against South Africa in Port Elizabeth.

Akhtar, who was recently acquitted of doping charges, was included in the squad after Umar Gul was injured during a tour match in South Africa.

Akhtar took four wickets in the first innings. Should he be ruled out, it would be a huge loss for Pakistan who are seeking to level the series.

Akhtar "had found a problem with his hamstring and it is likely that he will not bowl again in the second innings. A scan will be arranged to examine the nature of the injury, but it is almost definite he will not bowl again," a source told cricinfo

Should Akhtar return to the field, he will be unable to bowl until he has completed the exact time spent off the field, on the field.
