Gibbs eligible for 2nd Test
17 Jan 2007
By: Liam Camps

South Africa could have the services of the embattled Herschelle Gibbs for the second Test against Pakistan, as his ban has been suspended by the ICC until it rules on his appeal.

The ICC imposed a two-game ban on Gibbs, following alleged racist remarks made by the batsman during the first Test against Pakistan. Gibbs has denied all claims of racism and has stated that he did not transgress any rules of the ICC.

The hearing on the appeal is due to be held between the second and third Tests, having been rescheduled from January 23. The name of the Appeals Commissioner and the date of the hearing will be announced in due course, according to the ICC. The second Test begins on January 19 at Port Elizabeth.
