Prince named SA vice-captain
26 Jan 2006
By: Liam Camps

Ashwell Prince, 28, has been named as Graeme Smith's deputy in the absence of Jacques Kallis. Having captained the South Africa 'A' team in the past, Prince gets his first chance at the role of vice-captain.

Prince has become a regular fixture in the South African One Day International and Test team over the last year. The left-handed batsman has contributed solidly in the middle order and fielded brilliantly otherwise.

Kallis returned home from the current tour of Australia with a shoulder injury, as he attempts to be fully fit for the home leg of South Africa's battle with Australia. He is the third South African player to return home from the tour.
