Gibbs hits a million
17 Mar 2007
By: Zac Gelman

Star South African batsman Herschelle Gibbs hit six sixes in a row yesterday, in the process earning US $1million for a charity of his choice.

The feat, never before accomplished in international cricket, occurred off the bowling of Dutch part-timer Daan van Bunge as Gibbs amassed an incredible 72 off 40 balls in a man of the match performance.

"It's up there with the best things I've done," said Gibbs.

"I never thought about getting six in a row, but if it's your day, it's your day.

"After the first three I thought I was in with a chance, but I decided I wasn't going to charge him, I'd wait to see what he does and luckily they fell into the right slot.

"I just stayed in my crease and luckily they fell into the right slot."

Johnny Walker, sponsors of the 2007 Cricket World Cup, have offered US $1million for the first batsman to hit six sixes in an over. In a statement released today, they said they were "absolutely delighted by the inspirational and pioneering feat that was today realised by Herschelle Gibbs".
