Anxious Wait for Vaughan & Giles

Michael Vaughan (knee) and Ashley Giles (hip) face uncertain futures as they wait to find out if they require further surgery. If surgery is required, this will almost certainly rule both of them out for the rest of the English summer.

Both have not played for England since the tour of Pakistan before Christmas last year. Vaughan has played sporadically for Yorkshire recently, but a flare up of his troublesome right knee last week against Sussex has his medical team wondering if they should reassess the situation and have another attempt to fix the knee surgically.

This year England has not looked the same dangerous unit they did when they regained the Ashes. Vaughan’s astute captaincy is vital if England is to have a chance of holding onto the Ashes.

Ashley Giles will fly to the United States this week to seek another opinion on his hip injury. Specialists in England have suggested that another operation may be required to fix the problem.
