20/20 Bash; Australian Innings

20/20 Bash Australian Innings

Luke Pomersbach was given an early Christmas present being selected for his international debut after turning up to the match as a simple spectator. Pomersbach replaced Brad Hodge who withdrew with injury before the start of the match.

Australia won the toss and debut captain Michael Clarke chose to bat, and for good measure stroked the first ball he faced in his role as opener to the boundary.
Over one= Aus 5-0 (Gilly 1 Clarke 4)

Jeetan Patel then put in an early bid for catch of the year; pulling down a magnificent reflex catch at backward point to claim the prize wicket of Adam Gilchrist.
Over two= Aus 5-1 (Hussey 0 Clarke 4)
Over three= Aus 10-1 (Hussey 3 Clarke 6)

Clarke lifted the ?sick? run rate with a straight driven six and a crashing boundary, this was followed by another by Hussey to give Australia 15 from the over.
Over four= Aus 25-1 (Hussey 7 Clarke 15)

This time it was Hussey leading the charge with consecutive boundaries as Australia smashed 16 off the fifth over.
Over five= Aus 41-1 (Hussey 17 Clarke 22)
Over six= Aus 48-1 (Hussey 22 Clarke 24)

The introduction of spin in the form of Patel paid instant dividends for New Zealand having Hussey stumped for 23.
Over seven= Aus 55-2 (Symonds 1 Clarke 28)
Over eight= Aus 60-2 (Symonds 4 Clarke 31)
Over nine= Aus 68-2 (Symonds 12 Clarke 31)

Captain Daniel Vettori was also bowling well and was rewarded with the wicket of Clarke for 33 well caught in the deep by Taylor.
Over ten= Aus 73-3 (Symonds 13 Voges 1)
Pace bowling again proved more to the Australian liking as debuted Voges struck a couple of nice boundaries. This may prove a worry with the Australian reliance on pace in this match.
Over 11= Aus 83-3 (Symonds 13 Voges 11)
Over 12= Aus 90-3 (Symonds 15 Voges 16)

Three boudaries to ?Roy? Symonds, all with no real risk look foreboding for the Black Caps
Over 13= Aus 105-3 (Symonds 29 Voges 17)

Scott Styis was greeted by Symonds hitting his first ball for a towering straight six, as Australia smashed 14 off the over.
Over 14= Aus 119-3 (Symonds 42 Voges 18)

Symonds continued to attack hitting another straight six and a beautiful drive for four, this latter being the shot of the match.
Over 15= Aus 131-3 (Symonds 53 Voges 12)

Vettori finished his four over spell as clearly the best bowler, with all the Australians showing him respect (well as much respect as batsman show in 20/20)
Over 16= Aus 140-3 (Symonds 59 Voges 22)

Adam Voges fell for a quick 26 caught in the deep by Taylor, the young batsman looking at home at this level. Young Pomersbach starts his international career with a single.
Over 17= Aus 153-4 (Symonds 67 Pomersbach 1)

Pomersbach showed he also belongs at this level with a cleanly struck six
Over 18= Aus 169-4 (Symonds 76 Pomersbach 8)

Taylor seemed to take a great catch, but then released the ball as he thought he was going over the boundary rope. Replays suggested his momentum would not have taken him over the rope.
Over 19= Aus 178-4 (Symonds 80 Pomersbach 13)

Luke Pomersbach caught in the deep by Taylor who has excelled in the field all day. Ashley Noffke is run out without facing.
Over 20= Aus 186-6 (Symonds 85 Lee 0)
